September 2007

We have secured the date for the Robin Hood Forest Stages Rally for 2008, the dates are Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th March 2008.  This has been a very successful event to date, and a lot of work and time goes into the organising and running of it on a predominantly voluntary basis.  We hope next year's event won't disappoint.  More information will be available nearer the time, but if anyone would like to get involved in helping to organise the event, or would be interested in marshalling, please contact Gordon Waddington or Phil Bielby for more information.

The Danum Road Rally is scheduled for Saturday night 17th/18th May 2008.  More details can be found at www.danumrally.co.uk alternatively please contact David Wilson on tel: 01142 441971 for further information.

The last 2 autotest events have taken place with Eric Wood taking the overall Championship title and with a huge amount of luck I've somehow managed to grab first in the saloon class.

Ian Wright in the Cockshoot Cup (MG racing) came first in class and 3rd over all, so well done Ian!!  More info can be found under Motorsports > Other Motorsports.

Karting
The inter-club karting championshp retated after the summer break on Sunday with Tom Rodgers, Simon Gratton and myself taking the drivers seat and Adrian Wright helping with the driver change in the pit stop.  The round was the first and only round to be outdoors.  The circuit was PF international near Newark and it was my first experience of outdoor karting, which is my excuse for being so weak in the team.

In Practice, Simon Gratton managed to set a nice fast lap, which got us 5th on the grid.  The race started with a first corner scuffle, leaving "Team Border" with 1 wheel short of a full set!  About 4 laps in they were eventually back on their way after a little track sid assistance from a marshal.  Other than that the race went with no more major incidents, although there were a few funny moments with drivers locking wheels trying to avoid some of the slower drivers entering the start/finish straight.  Before I went out on the last stint for the team I had a quick glance at the times and we appeared to have a comfortable lead over the team in front and behind but I thought I'd go give it my best shot anyway and I was flying (or so I thought!).  On the final laps I could see the rest of the team in the pit lane waving at me to go faster and it wasn't util I finished that I realised we'd managed to get 9th place, but only 2 seconds in front of 10th, and they'd been catching me rather quickly!  Incidentally, Border managed to make it off bottom spot and came 19th, after Derriman 2 picked up a puncture and Worksop managed to win yet another round, so well done to them.
