A BUMPER EDITION ………. but considering how busy we have been as a Club over the last month or so there's little wonder there is so much to report on. First may I say a very big thank you to all those who supported the Club at the Gainsborough Festival of Transport in September. The demonstration Autotest gave the public something different to see - just a pity it couldn't have been on the grass. With so many tp help and with the assortment of vehicles and material we had on display we gave a good indication of what a top notch motor club is all about. On top of all this we also made £200.02 for the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice Appeal so an extra thank you to those of you who aided me on the day, particularly to Nick Huntridge and The James' Boys.
The Trackrod Rally and our own Danum Road Rally went off very well with no hitches. There were at least two of us on the Trackrod whose choice of car of the rally wasn't a competitors. Both Paul Reaney and myself were most impressed by the Freelander course car pictured here and Paul has gone to the trouble of doing a bit of research which, as this edition of Tappits may end up bulging from the mailing envelopes, I'm holding this over for the November edition.
The first Committee meeting for the 2004 Robin Hood Forest Stages Rally has been held with a few new welcome faces joining the crew. If you couldn't make the meeting but would still like to get involved please have a word with Geoff Boud, Gordon Waddington or any other Club Committee member. As the saying goes - many hands make light work and there will be a job for anyone who wants one.
Right you may recall some months ago I included details of the RAC Rally or to give it the correct title The Roger Albert Clark Rally. Nothing more had been heard of this particular event for some and the fears were that it was just too an enormous task to get it off the ground for 2004. However it has taken off thanks to a group of stalwarts of rallying and, as the article later in this edition details, it's going to start and finish in Sheffield from the 20th to the 24th November next year. Colin Wilson of CDWRITE - Colnbrook (see www.cdwrite.co.uk) and the website www.rallycodriver.co.uk has provided the details of the Press Release on this event, dated the 9th October, and on another which has caused me to scratch the old bonce today - 13th October.

" REVIVING THE LOST SPIRIT OF THE RAC RALLY - Plans to revive the spirit of the RAC Rally with a new rally which takes in England, Scotland and Wales will be unveiled at 4pm on Tuesday, at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall.
Called The Revival Rally, the new event will drive an authentic route based on the RAC Rallies of the 1970s and 1980s, starting in Harrogate on 25 November next year and finishing in Newport, after driving the full length of Wales on the final day.The route will be unveiled at a Press Party with a number of past winners, personalities and competitors from the 'golden era' of Britain's premiere rally attending. Previously unseen photographs will form a special exhibition, while rare cine film from 1958 to the end of the 1970s, which captures the lost spirit of the RAC Rally, has been specially edited for the launch.
Cars for the Revival Rally can be of any age, but the new organising team who have put together the route are hoping for modern showroom-standard cars complying with the new regulations from the MSA which limit modifications for cars up to 1400cc."
Now have I lost the plot , my marbles or what? I know as you get on a bit the old grey matter suffers but if one finishes in Sheffield on the 24th and one starts in Harrogate on the 25th there's going to be one hell of a conflict somewhere. Can anyone shed some light on this for me. Please....????
Finally - want a laugh - have a look at The World's Strangest Rallying Incidents at www.rallycodriver.co.uk. The "That's a funny place to keep a torch!" never happened on any road rally I've been part of - wish it had.
