News & editorial
September 2005
Hello all you lovely Lindholme lads and lasses. If your humble Chairman sounds as pleased a very pleased person with a very special reason to be pleased… you would be right. A well known telecommunications company has cancelled a "dummy account" which it attempted to charge to the club. Now, if that strikes you as being a bit cryptic, then you could always talk to me, or any committee member to get more of the story. The upshot briefly is that I would advise against the placing of any notices to large wooden poles sprouting from the ground with some wires attached.
Many thanks to Phil B. and John P. for their excellent navigational scatter on September 7. It was a hoot to drive on the challenging roads on the "Top Half" of map 110, even if my esteemed navigator David thinks I wasn't pedalling fast enough at times. Old car, (needed to get to work in), old brain and a licence to preserve are my excuses. Despite that, we were pleased to emerge as winners, partly because we did not incur much in the way of time penalties. WDW and LF are planning to give you a proper 12 car rally soon, so look out for details in Comp. Sec's Composition.
I really enjoyed a day at Mallory Park on 28 August (sorry - did I put the wrong date on the photo page?) Ian Wright was racing in the MG Cockshoot Cup round, and I decided it was time to see what it was all about. I don't think I've been back to Mallory since Donington re-opened in the 70s. I used to go regularly to races as a lad, even as a season ticket holder for a year or two. Anyway, the "Friendly Circuit" continues to be just that, and badly signposted as well. Two chicanes are now available, but thank goodness not used for this meeting. The new control suite looks good - the shattered tarmac in the paddock less so. Ian had a cracking race, featuring a demon outbraking attempt at the hairpin, which he had to back out of, and a great result of 6th overall and second in class. Ian will tell you more in his column.
To keep you up to speed with membership promotion - Dave James and I will be approaching car dealerships and accessory outlets to allow us to promote the club. We are thinking in terms of banner, leaflets, and perhaps a competition car and club reps present on a given day. If you have any contacts we can use, please let us know. Thank you in advance to Carol Waddington who is designing a new flyer/poster for us. If anyone is willing to have a go at doing a "Powerpoint" slide presentation for us , we need you! John Sayles has a CD with loads of photos to use. The area's colleges and universities are also being contacted - especially those with motorsport or related engineering courses.
MSA "Workshops"
MSA News in August Tappits featured an item you may have passed by. They are about promoting clubs, so it would be good to be represented one of the upcoming events. Stuart Turner is a very entertaining speaker, and Allan Dean-Lewis of MSA will be there as well. The workshops start at 20.00 on these dates:
Wed 28 Sept, Ramada Hotel, Shipton Rd, Skelton, York YO30 1XW
Tues 11 Oct, Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham, Lincoln LN6 9NH
If you could represent us, please say so - you do not have to be on the committee!
We still desperately need a Tappits editor!
This accounts for my August column going astray, (reprinted in this issue), and the scrambled names/addresses on Aug Pg1. Can you help?? You don't have to write an editorial even - I'll do news and views. It's mostly a case of collating pages and taking it to Kwikprint. John Paget is handling distribution. Again - committee membership isn't essential.
See you on WRGB!
