September 2003

By the time you receive this edition we will have held the first of the Stages Rally meetings and hopefully many of you will have attended to volunteer your services. If you were unable to attend - no worries - there is still plenty of time to get involved.
The Club really does need your help and not only for this event but for the forthcoming Danum Road Rally - see Ian's Inkins.
Gordon would also appreciate as much help as you can give for the Trackrod Rally Yorshire during the last weekend of September - see article elsewhere in this edition of Tappits.

Come on - In last months Tappits I gave provisional details on a proposed Karting event. To date there's been little interest shown so this is the last call. If you are up for it - please get in touch by phone or email ASAP and I'll see if it can still be done in time.

The Downs and Ups of Life - When work gets you down and you lose a good pal as John Marsh and I just have you hope for something to give you a lift. A week after our friend Carl's funeral, (He was the stocky guy who always propped up the Bar near the revolving door at the Wheatley Hotel.) I received a call from another friend inviting me and John Marsh to go to Palmer Sport at Bedford Autodrome. I was a little apprehensive at first - busting my neck in Rogers Cosworth puts you off doing too much as far as fast cars go but after reading the literature I thought sod it - you only get asked once.
I'm certainly glad I threw caution to the wind as the Jonathan Palmer Motorsport Sensation is absolutely brilliant. Most of the tutors are up and coming drivers who work and in so doing practice to become future stars of motorsport.
Watch out for Gary Fellows name cropping up. He guided me in the drive of a lifetime in the 180mph Palmer Jaguar JP1 which has a 3.0 litre V6 Jaguar engine developed by Cosworth and has no problem getting you to 100mph in less than 7 seconds.
To describe it as awesome is an understatement - particularly when you get a quick downpour as I did, which meant when you belted down the back straight at 125mph with your vision impaired, to be told not to brake until the 75 metre board, you got the biggest adrenaline burst of a lifetime. If I can win the Lottery I'm having two.
I'm not sure how much the day costs but if you get an opportunity to go - do it.
The day starts at 7.45am when they give you a full English - just to see if you can keep it down I think. A midday dinner is provided and you even get your tea served to you before the day finishes at 5.45pm.
The days programme will include as it did for us - instruction and driving of 7cars such as EVO's, VX220 Turbos, Caterham 7 Lightweights, Fronteras on an off road course, the single seater Formula Palmer Audi, Renault Clio Cup Race car, the Palmer Jaguar with a spot of Karting thrown in to stop you getting bored.

If you want to know more about this superb day out have a look at the website - www.palmersport.com After all Christmas isn't too far away if you want to start dropping hints to your partners or parents !!!!
