News & editorial
August 2003
Many thanks from the Committee for such a good turnout at the AGM, numbers attending were up on the previous year which was a very welcoming sight.
Thanks also to those 40 plus people who made the BBQ at Peter and Marion's house a resounding success - hopefully I'll include some photos next month.
Following the Club's AGM we now have Simon Gratton who has kindly volunteered to give us a hand on the Committee. Anyone else who would like to join the Committee should speak to any of the existing members. The more the merrier.

| Now as the What's On calendar illustrates this next two months are going to be pretty busy with the club heavily involved with the Trackrod Rally Yorshire on the last weekend of September and the rescheduled Danum Rally running the following weekend. |
|
David Wilson and Ian Beech and Gordon Waddington have included details elsewhere in this edition of Tappits so please help them and the Club in anyway you can. If you can involve any non-members please do so as both these events will be a good baptism by fire if you see what I mean.
At least you don't have to be on the MSA Register to marshal on these events……. Yes I know …… we were told this sort of thing would never happen but the card we received proved our feelings were founded.
Anyway enough of this sarcasm - after all these Club events it should be time for a little R & R - You know - rest and relaxation.

| At the AGM I asked if anyone would fancy a bit more Karting - this time outdoors, in twin engined machines, on a half kilometre tarmac track. |
|
The interest shown was pretty good so I've talked with Amen Corner Karting and we can have a two hour endurance race session with them either at a weekend or on a Friday evening. As it would be difficult to organise until after the Danum I'm suggesting the 10th/11th or 12th of October.
A catch …. Yes there's always a catch. This time it's that we need to make a firm booking and pay 50% on booking with the balance on the day. The cost - £60 per hour per Team and I would suggest we have 6 teams of 4 - numbers similar to the night we had at Avago. I will invite the lads from work to make up numbers again but please note - if you have friends or family who would like to join in - for this type of Kart the minimum age is 17.
Right then - If you are up for it - get in touch by phone or email ASAP - all are listed on the Committee page. Let me know which day / date would suit and bear in mind they normally run until 6.00pm. Once I've got sufficient interest I'll arrange to book and take deposits. (For more info on the venue see AMENCORNERKARTING.CO.UK)
Finally …..as previously mentioned in the last two Tappits we have been invited to attend the Gainsborough Festival of Transport on Saturday 13th September at Queen Elizabeth's High School. Following discussions with the organisers it is our intention to run a couple of demonstration Autotests to entertain the crowds and hopefully attract additional new blood to the Club.
Malcolm Lister and Eric Wood are kindly sorting this side of things out and are hoping to persuade Border M.C. to have a go with us to make it more competitive. If you are interested in coming along let me or Dave James know ASAP.
