JUNE 2002
They say Summer is coming but you wouldn't think so with the rain we've had so far today - Monday.
Hopefully it will be a decent day for the Dukeries Rally on the 22nd June.

One feature of this years event, according to Dukeries Motor Club is that every marshal and official on the event will be given a Safety Tabard, purchased via the Motor Sport Safety Fund, in addition to a detailed marshals booklet and a commemorative year badge. Go to www.dukeries-rally.co.uk for more details of entrants etc and see Len's Lines for final details for Club members and friends going out to Marshal at Blidworth.
Again on the rallying side Gordon Waddington has informed me that this years Robin Hood Historic Forest Stages looks like being featured on television along with other rounds from the British Historic Rally Championship. Mal Video are actively working with AMG Video Productions on a series of programmes to be featured in a new series on Channel 5 and Men and Motors called "Rally UK" .
The programmes are scheduled to commence in September and as soon as full details are announced I'll let you know through Tappits and on the Club website.
There's a selection of summertime social events which I would like to bring to your attention. First the annual get together for the Bar B Q at Peter and Marion's will be on Saturday 13th July and considering just how popular this has become I'd advise you to book your place as early as possible to avoid disappointment. An event new to us but one I'm sure will be a good day out is the South Yorkshire RS Owners Regional Day at the Armthorpe Road Rugby Ground on Sunday 7th July. As the Thorne Gala Autotest is on Sunday 28th July I'm not sure if Ian Wright will be able to attend. This is as he'll be competing on the 26th-27th at Nordschleife in Germany and it's a hell of a long drive back. Ian did the German event last year where each lap is 14 miles & has over 180 bends. He could do worse than seek the guidance of Sabine, the young blonde woman who was on the Jeremy Clarkson programme last week . She took the record for fastest lap time when only 19 years old - (8 minutes and 16 seconds) and works there as, what Clarkson called , a racing taxi driver. Look her up when you get there Ian.
On Sunday 4th August The Richard Foundation, who are raising money to provide a children's hospice, are holding a Family Fun Day in Doncaster. Through Nick Huntridge the club have been asked if we can help. If we can muster enough support we may be able to set up a club stand. See ads later in Tappits for more details.
Last but not least, the Fifth Gainsborough Festival of Transport, at the Queen Elizabeth High School, is to take place on Saturday 14th September The Club have again been invited to set up a stand to show members cars and promote the club. Last year was well attended with Mel Drohan, Nick Huntridge James Parker, Dave Taylor, Jeff Southall and Eric Wood all taking their cars along. More details of this will be in July Tappits but if anyoney fancies going please let me know.
As stated in last months Editorial the AGM will be on the 17th July - Enclosed with your Tappits are a Notice of the meeting, a Committee Nomination Form and a copy of the minutes from the 2001 AGM.
Please note nomination forms must be returned to Maureen by the 13th July.
And finally if there are any of you F1 buffs who would like a full size cardboard cutout, in full colour, of Michael Schumacher or Rubens Barrichello now's your chance. Maureen and Ken at Thorne Television have one of each available which they are offering for sale and any money received will be donated to charity. If you fancy one then please give Maureen a ring on the number listed on the Committee Members page.
