April 2003

RIGHT FOLKS - here's the proof - "The Boss" finally gets what he deserves - his Maltesers - not before time. Certainly makes up for the dissappointment of the yellow PVC raincoat anyway.

Visited Dave James again the other Friday and I'm not sure where he bought his humour package - he's been keeping everyone in the DRI in stitches - no pun intended. He should be out soon for good behaviour and I'll make sure he can get down to the Club and back home again by throwing him into the Discovery.

Hope all of you who went to Gale Rigg enjoyed the Humberside Forest Stages as much as I did. Good weather, good company and a pint on the way home. There are a few more upcoming rallies on the calendar and one in particular needs sticking in your diaries - The Dukeries on Saturday June 21st - See Ian's Inkin's as we will need all the help we can get.

Before that there's an event with a difference taking place locally. The Association of Rover Clubs is holding the ARC 2003 National Rally at Matt Lee's Farm at Loversall, on the way to Wadworth and Tickhill, on the 23rd to 27th May. Matt is married to Stephanie Simmonite - you remember - she and her sister Racheal used to drive for Ford. Matt has stepped in to host the bash following complications due to a cancellation of venue. The ARC National was held here in 1999 since when Matt has made considerable improvements to the courses. If you've never attended this type of competition your in for a surprise. You might have seen the big V8 Discoveries competeing in the forest events where they have gone in a flash but in the comp safari, which will be on Bank Holiday Monday, they will be much more visible on the farm land and there will be far more of them. The Saturday and Sunday see other events like road taxed vehicle trials and cross country vehicle trials and there are plenty of trade and club stands to boot.

If you want more info or fancy a spot of different marshalling let me know.
Again talking of marshalling - does the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2004 ring any bells. Some of you will already know but to quote their website -a group of people who remember "The old days" of the RAC Rally of Great Britain have got together to recreate what was the last great rallying adventure to be had in this country, to capture, today, the feel of the rally when it was in it's heyday of the 70's. We all acknowledge that the WRC had to change, remember the crowd trouble in Portugal and Monte Carlo for instance? but we are certain that there is still a place in British Motorsport for such an event.
The event will be a four or five day around Britain Rally in November 2004, a field of up to 200 cars visiting such places as Kielder, Grizedale, Dalby and Penmachno.

In an attempt to keep down the costs it will be a secret rally so no practicing or pacenotes will be allowed, service cars and vans will be limited but above all it will pay homage to "The old days".
