APRIL 2002
RIGHT FOLKS….. First and foremost - Please note - your regular meeting venue for these past years is about to close, on the 22nd April, for refurbishment. We are told that the closure will be for at least 8 weeks and at this moment in time we aren't certain just what the alterations will mean to us being able to return to the Wheatley Hotel. We will however keep you informed and hopefully by the time the May edition of Tappits gets to you, we will have a clearer indication of what we will do come the end of June.
In between times we have arranged an alternative venue for our meetings. This is at the Case / McCormick Recreation Club on Wheatley Hall Road at Doncaster which is only a stones throw, depending on the strength of your arm, from the Wheatley Hotel. I have included a map of the area elsewhere in Tappits to guide you to the new meeting place at the approx. map reference 111/588053.
We will be meeting there in the back room which is partitioned off from the main Bar area. Beer and other drinks are reasonably cheap and the Car Park has plenty of space. Access in and out of the premises is controlled by traffic lights - just be careful when you first start using the entry as traffic coming from the opposite direction can be deceptively fast. If anyone has any queries please call me or Dave Pope.
The next important note concerns the 17th April - this being the final meeting before the closure.
The evening is to include, for those who are interested, a visit to the Dixon Motor Groups Distribution Depot at Thorne. They have invited Club members, through the efforts of Maureen Hemingway, to take a tour of their depot, which will last 40 minutes or so, followed by a question and answer session.
Please note if you would like to go the start time is 6.00pm prompt , let me know by email or phone so I can pass on details of members to Dixons via Maureen. The depot is easy to find as it's just off junction 6 of the M18 and can be clearly seen if you are approaching from the south.
This month's Tappits may not match last month's bumper edition but I've taken the opportunity to include messages from some of our friends and acquaintances who have taken time to put pen to paper, or their fingers to the keyboard, with comments on the Robin Hood Stages.
With the Stages in mind someone has informed me of a quite unique website which has hundreds of images not only of our event but of many from around the country. It's created and maintained by Simon Clarke and can be found at www.sc-photography.co.uk
Two other sites of interest that has come to light through publicity material we have received
will be of great interest to those with a deep interest in Motor Racing. Have a scan at www.motorracing-archive.com and www.racingpast.com
And finally a reminder that the Danum Road Rally is to be held in May - See "What's On". Please, if you are able to help out in any way have a word with David Wilson, Ian Beech or Anne Stapleton.
