News & editorial

February 2006

Trouble with taking an 'Official's job isn't having to write an article, but finding a suitably naff name for the piece. Len has his 'Lines', Gordon has his 'Gossip', Comp' Sec' has his 'Composition', and Phil? ... is just Dyslexic. But naff alone isn't enough. It needs to be original and naff.

Will's Words? Naa
Bill's Burblings? Naaaa
Bill's Browsings? Hmmm

Then the eureka moment: At least 50% of you readers will remember a horse who could actually talk, (that's his photo above) what was his name? Mr Ed of course. That's it, Ed's Editorial. How original is that, nobody else could have thought of it. Now all that's left is for you to work out which end I'm talking out of. Just as well Mr Ed wasn't beef....Bill's Bovine Browsings? Well now!

Anyway, if you have a suitably original and naff suggestion, please keep it to yourself.

How did you think the Club Dinner went? I thought it was a great night. Good venue; Organisation faultless as ever, thanks to Mr Pope. The awards and trophies display is always impressive, and thanks to Dave James for his entertainment, which incidentally raised some useful cash for the club coffers:

£27 from the Bingo
£76 from the raffle, and
£16.80 from the 20p shove ha'penny (after the cost of the bottle of whisky)

Speaking of which, this year I came with my pockets stuffed with 20s, (coins not notes!) prepared to make a real fund raising contribution, and came away with the bottle of whisky. I reckon it only cost me 20p more than Mel Drohan. Sorry Mel you deserved it too.

It's that time of year again and most of you will be busy doing your bit (or lot) for our Robin Hood Forest Stages Rally on the weekend of 4&5-March. If you're not in any way involved and would like to lend a hand, I'm sure there are still team members who would welcome your help.
