February 2004

First may I say we wish a speedy recovery to one of the Clubs' longest standing and respected members, Wilf Hobson, who for many years was the sponsor of our Stages Rally through his company Norking Aluminium. Get well soon Wilf. Someone else who is showing improvement is Dave James who I took for a ride home last Friday to allow the nursing staff to get some rest form the Joker. Actually the hospital ought to be paying Dave for the way he keeps patients spirits up with his banter. We all missed him at the Dinner Dance but he'd made a conscious decision that when he's improving, there's no point in tempting fate. We should see him soon so Gordon will be relieved not to have to put up with my "odd" quiz techniques. It was good to see many of our newer members enjoying themselves whilst also picking up a sizeable selection of silverware into the bargain. The Dearne Valley Motorsport crews picking up no less than 6 trophies. The biggest surprise of the night was mine when Len announced he'd awarded the Deerdale Sumpcracker Trophy to me. There's something quite pleasing to being the first to receive a new trophy - it will be interesting to see the reasoning behind next years recipient being awarded this most unusual trophy. ( Promise I'll keep it polished Len and Paul).

I think I can speak for most who ventured up to God's Country- North Yorkshire - for the Riponian when I say it was a great day out despite the bitter cold at times. Not so enjoyable for some though when breakage's rob you of a top 5 finish - see the What's On page. If you want a quick overview of the Riponian Stages Rally exploits, particularly at the destructive Lightwater Valley yump, you must have a look on Mad Video's Website - www.madvideo.demon.co.uk/page34.htm should lead you to it. It's also got a quick showing of Donovan Jenkins and Ian Bass getting 90deg out of line - and as always it's the Co-Drivers side that ends up in the direction of travel.

STOP PRESS - Robin Hood Forest Stages Rally update - you'll be pleased to know that as at 9th February we had received 87 entries for the Historic Classes and 35 for the Moderns. Any one still able to help who hasn't already volunteered please shout now or contact any Club Committee member.
