February 2003

You'll no doubt have noticed we have a new front cover. You may also remember I offered a prize for the winning entry and yes - I did receive more than one …. Just.
By a margin of just one vote the winner was Nicky Huntridge and although I haven't seen him sporting it - he's the winner of the Storm watch. Nick's cover depicts the "High Flyers" from the 2002 World Rally Championship with the centre piece being an image of a friend of the Club - Phil Mills - Co-driver for the Norwegian Petter Solberg. Phil of course partnered Petter to victory on the Rally of Great Britain - a brilliant first victory for him on his home event - in his home country of Wales.

Although the first 2003 WRC Round - the Monte, was a huge disappointment - hitting a bridge put them out - the rally in Sweden was a much better event for the Subaru pairing - see WRC and F1 Calendar page.
Not so for a couple of the 206's - imagine coming around a corner, foot to the floor and finding a Peugeot 206 smack bang in your way and no chance of avoiding a major collision. A very lucky escape for those involved with Juuso Pykalisto and Harri Rovanpera and their co-drivers basically unhurt. Marcus Gronholm was basically unbeatable in Sweden which, with all the snow and ice, is a very specialised event, but the next round takes place in Turkey at the end of the month and no-one will have the advantage of previous knowledge.

Right WRC out of the way - we've got a better event to concentrate on and ….. if Dave James hasn't already collared you could you please offer your help by giving him a call.
The entry list this year has filled up quicker than ever before and if you look at the entry lists on the Robin Hood Rally website it's not because of the new Classic event entries.
One of Craig Dykes' companies is our main sponsor and he has entered the Modern event.

I also noticed from the Kall Kwik entry list that Craig is competing this coming Sunday so all of you travelling up to Dalby - cheer him on.

Now if any of you notice a strong smell of PVC whilst you're out on the next few rallies it could be Geoff. For those of you that were not at the Dinner Dance but were at the Christmas Party - Dave James played a blinder by hiding the horrible yellow waist length waterproof that no one would accept in a giant carton of Maltesers. By chance this was won by Geoff. Pleased as punch he was as they are his favourites but when Dave called him up to open it the truth was revealed ……. Lady luck was not on his side I'm afraid.

WANTED ….. Anyone having a half decent surplus Radio Cassette they would like to sell - I'd be pleased to hear from you. Mine has conked out and I'm missing my music.

Finally two dates for the diary in July - the 12th is the Club's BBQ evening at Marion and Pete Hodgson's house and the following Wednesday, the 16th, is booked for the Club A.G.M.
